Polda Metro Jaya inventories damage after protest outside DPR

Polda Metro Jaya is carrying out an inventory of damage to public facilities and other assets following a protest outside the DPR/MPR building in Jakarta on Thursday.

“We have not received definitive data yet, but we will also conduct an inventory of the damage that has occurred,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in Jakarta on Thursday evening.

Budi said a number of damages were visible after the situation around the parliamentary complex escalated in the afternoon and evening.

According to him, after the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) crowd finished conveying their aspirations and left the location, a number of people from other elements continued to arrive.

Some of the crowd then no longer conveyed their aspirations, but instead carried out vandalism and arson around the gates of the DPR/MPR building.

Police have not been able to confirm whether there was damage to public transport facilities or other facilities around the location because the data collection process is still ongoing.

Budi said acts of vandalism against public facilities could have an impact on public activities and services.

Polda Metro Jaya has also diverted traffic flow around the DPR/MPR building and the toll road sections leading to the area to maintain security and public activities.

Budi said traffic flow will be normalised once the situation allows.

“We understand this is a working day, and how the public also needs to be in a safe condition. Jakarta belongs to all of us, and we must protect Jakarta together,” he said.
