Jakarta – Polda Metro Jaya arrested Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dr Tifa, on Friday morning, 19 June 2026, in connection with the alleged dissemination of accusations that the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), holds a fake diploma.

Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanudin, assured that the legal process involving Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa will be conducted transparently. “We will continue to maintain and ensure that the entire law enforcement process is carried out professionally, transparently, fairly, and accountably,” Iman stated during a press conference at Polda Metro Jaya on Friday.

Iman also urged all parties to work together in providing proper legal education and knowledge to the public. He further emphasised that the arrests were not carried out suddenly. The action was taken because Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa were to be handed over to the prosecutors. “The police are ensuring that this step was not taken abruptly, but rather after the case file was declared complete, or P-21, by the prosecutor’s office,” he explained.

It was previously reported that former Youth and Sports Minister Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was arrested by Polda Metro Jaya investigators on Friday morning. The information was conveyed by the Advocacy Team Against the Criminalisation of Academics and Activists (TA-AKAA), which has been assisting Roy Suryo throughout the ongoing legal process.

According to the legal team, the information regarding the arrest was received from Roy Suryo’s wife at around 7:00 AM Western Indonesian Time. At almost the same time, they also received news that Tifauzia Tyassuma had been detained by the police.

The news of the arrest drew a sharp response from Roy Suryo’s legal support team. They argued that the action taken by investigators was not in line with the principles of law enforcement that uphold procedures and citizens’ rights. TA-AKAA Litigation Coordinator, Petrus Selestinus, expressed regret over the arrest of Roy Suryo. He noted that throughout the investigation process, Roy Suryo had been cooperative by complying with summons for questioning. Additionally, Roy Suryo had reportedly been routinely fulfilling his mandatory reporting obligations as stipulated in the ongoing legal process.
