Polda Metro Jaya detains five youths suspected of planning illegal street race in East Jakarta
The Joint Patrol Team of the Mobile Brigade Battalion B Pioneer of the Polda Metro Jaya, together with the Precision Patrol of the East Jakarta Metro Police, detained five young men suspected of planning to carry out an illegal street race on Jalan Pondok Kelapa Raya, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, in the early hours of Thursday.
Dansat Brimob Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto, said they were found with two motorcycles after police received a public report regarding suspected illegal street racing activity at the location.
“From the initial inspection, the two motorcycles that were brought did not have vehicle documents. Police then took the five young men along with the vehicles to the Duren Sawit Police Station for further examination. Five mobile phones were also seized in the process,” said Henik in his statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said that night patrols until the early hours of the morning continue to be carried out to prevent various potential disturbances to public security and order.
According to him, activities that lead to illegal street racing are one of the concerns because they not only disrupt order, but can also endanger other road users.
“Patrols will continue to be carried out routinely by targeting a number of points that are considered prone to public order disturbances. Every piece of information from the public is followed up as a preventive measure so that the situation remains safe and conducive,” said Henik.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, urged the public, especially parents, to increase supervision of their children and teenagers so that they are not involved in risky activities, including illegal street racing or other actions that can disrupt public order.
“We urge parents to pay more attention to their children’s activities, especially at night until the early hours of the morning. Do not let them get involved in activities that endanger themselves or others. Let us work together to keep the environment safe and conducive,” said Budi.
The public is also urged not to carry out activities that could endanger themselves or other road users and can contact the Police 110 service if they need police assistance.
