A joint team from the Polda Metro Jaya Brimob Unit and the East Jakarta Metro Police Precision Pioneer Team dispersed a brawl and detained five youths along with one sharp weapon on Jalan Basuki Rahmat, Cipinang Besar, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, in the early hours of Saturday.

Polda Metro Jaya Brimob Commander Senior Commissioner Henik Maryanto said the dispersal was carried out after officers received a report from the public about the movement of a group of youths suspected of intending to fight.

“Upon arriving at the location, the group attempted to disperse. However, the team immediately swept the surrounding area to ensure the situation remained conducive while preventing them from regrouping,” Henik said in Jakarta on Saturday.

He stressed that the joint patrol was a preventive measure to maintain public security and order, particularly during vulnerable hours from late night to early morning.

“The presence of personnel on the ground aims to prevent disturbances before they cause casualties. We want the public to be able to rest and carry out their activities safely,” he said.

All the youths along with the evidence have now been handed over to the East Jakarta Metro Police for further examination and legal processing.

Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto urged young people not to be easily provoked into brawls, whether directly or through social media.

Budi also asked parents to more strictly supervise their children’s activities, especially at night, to ensure they are not involved in groups that lead to criminal acts.

“Make sure children are at home. If the public becomes aware of any indication or potential security disturbance, immediately report it to the nearest police station or through the Police 110 Call Centre,” Budi said.
