Polda Metro Jaya, together with its subordinate police precincts, successfully uncovered 2,216 cases of curanmor (motor vehicle theft), curat (aggravated theft), and curas (violent theft) occurring in Jakarta and its surrounding areas from January to June 2026. From these cases, police named 2,054 individuals as suspects.

Wadirkrimum Polda Metro Jaya, AKBP Danang Setiyo, stated that the disclosures were based on police reports filed by the public. In total, 5,436 police reports were received over the six-month period.

“From these disclosures, officers managed to secure 2,054 suspects, who have now been detained and some have been handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office,” Danang said at Polda Metro Jaya on Tuesday (30/6).

The suspects are charged under Articles 477, 479, 306, 307, and 591 of the Criminal Code.

In addition to arresting the suspects, police also seized various pieces of evidence. These included Rp2 billion in cash, 14 firearms, 41 sharp weapons, 1,825 motorcycles, 22 cars, 296 mobile phones, 10 laptops, 95 rounds of ammunition, 4 airsoft guns, and 866.98 grams of gold.

“These items were seized to be presented in court, while others are still under investigation,” Danang stated.

Danang noted that an evaluation of the thousands of cases revealed that 3C crimes (curanmor, curas, curat) are most prevalent between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

“They occur when public activity decreases and environmental supervision declines,” he said.

Consequently, the police are collaborating with relevant parties to increase patrols during these vulnerable hours and to strengthen the presence of personnel in high-risk locations.

Polda Metro Jaya also urged the public to work together with the police, as security is not solely the responsibility of law enforcement.

“With good cooperation between the community and the police, it is hoped that crime rates can be reduced, creating a comfortable, safe, and conducive security and public order situation within the jurisdiction of Polda Metro Jaya,” Danang concluded.
