A church service disruption at Gereja Misi Sejahtera (GMS) in Sewon, Bantul, by a social organisation on Sunday (24 May) has prompted an investigation by Polda DIY’s Ditreskrimum unit.

The case is being handled officially under Police Report No. LP/A/6/V/2026/SPKT.DITRESKRIMUM/POLDA D.I YOGYAKARTA, dated 25 May 2026.

Polda DIY’s Public Relations Chief, Komisaris Besar Ihsan, stated that the police are conducting thorough investigations and swift handling of the alleged disturbance to religious activities that occurred on Sunday, 24 May 2026, in Bantul.

“The case is still in the investigation phase,” Ihsan said in a written statement on Wednesday (27 May 2026).

He added that investigators are gathering evidence and taking statements from witnesses to clarify the incident.

“The team is collecting evidence and witness statements while thoroughly examining the sequence of events to establish the facts,” he said.

Ihsan explained that if sufficient preliminary evidence is found during the case review, the case will be escalated to the investigation stage.

Polda DIY is committed to thoroughly and transparently investigating the case and has urged the public to remain calm and leave the matter to law enforcement and local authorities.

“The situation at the location is currently calm and under control. We urge all members of the public to remain calm, avoid being provoked by divisive narratives on social media, and trust law enforcement and local authorities to resolve the matter,” he stressed.

Previously reported, social media has been flooded with posts alleging that a social organisation disrupted a church service in Sewon, Bantul. Bantul’s National Unity and Political Affairs Agency (Kesbangpol) has stated it is taking steps to maintain stability.

“Again today, I received reports of forced disruption of worship by the GMS Bantul congregation at the hands of intolerant individuals, even involving violence. Please address this @yudhawk157,” said the Instagram account @davidherson_official, as seen by detikJogja.

“Have they forgotten that the state guarantees, under Article 29:1&2 of the 1945 Constitution, that every individual has the right to worship according to their beliefs? Please pay attention and take firm action against these intolerant individuals @kapolri_indonesia @pemkabbantul @kemenag_ri @polresbantuldiy @poldajogja,” the account added.
