Warsaw (ANTARA) - Poland is striving to station approximately 15,000 United States (US) troops within its territory, stated Polish Deputy Minister of Defence Stanislaw Wziatek on Monday (21/9).

Wziatek’s statement follows US President Donald Trump’s announcement of “significant progress” towards the establishment of a permanent US military base in the country.

“We are talking about an end target of 15,000 troops,” he told the Polish radio station RMF FM.

The planned force will include approximately 4,000 to 5,000 troops stationed at a permanent military base, alongside another 10,000 to 11,000 troops deployed on a rotational basis, Wziatek said.

According to Wziatek, the intended US forces will be “gradually increased” until 2039.

Poland currently hosts between 6,500 and 7,000 US troops on a rotational basis, he added.

Earlier in September, a US delegation led by the Deputy Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Thomas DiNanno, visited Poland to discuss potential locations for a permanent US military base.

The US is also conducting a six-month review of its military presence in Europe, which is expected to conclude by the end of the year.
