Pokémon Winds and Waves: Release Schedule for the 10th Generation
Game Freak has officially announced the latest Pokémon titles, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, on Friday 27 February 2026 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. The two games mark the 10th generation of Pokémon. The announcement was made during a Pokémon Presents event held on 27 February 2026.
The reveal trailer on YouTube showcases a range of new environments, from tropical islands and dense forests to expansive sea areas. Fans widely speculate that the game’s regions are inspired by Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.
In the official announcement, Pokémon Winds and Waves are scheduled for a global release in 2027. Both games will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, making them major titles for Nintendo’s latest generation of hardware.
Although a precise release date has yet to be announced, the initial trailer suggests a simultaneous launch across countries, enabling players to start at the same time.
As with Pokémon titles generally, Winds and Waves introduce three new starter Pokémon for players to choose from at the start of the game. They are Browt, a Grass-type Pokémon resembling a small chick; Pombon, a Fire-type resembling a fluffy little dog like a Pomeranian; and Gecqua, a Water-type Pokémon that resembles a gecko.
The appearance of these starters quickly sparked discussion among fans on social media, particularly because their designs are considered quite unique compared with previous generations.
Prior to the Winds and Waves announcement, the latest mainline Pokémon games were Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, released on 18 November 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. These games marked the beginning of the 9th generation of the Pokémon series and introduced a broader open-world concept than previous titles.
Scarlet and Violet are set in the Paldea region, inspired by the Iberian Peninsula, especially Spain and Portugal. The games also introduced more than 100 new Pokémon and an open-world exploration feature that allows players to roam the region without area restrictions.
Despite criticism over technical issues and performance at launch, Scarlet and Violet remained among Nintendo’s biggest launches in history, with millions of copies sold in a short period.
With the arrival of Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves in 2027, many fans hope the 10th generation will deliver a more mature experience. In addition to leveraging the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, the games are said to retain the open-world concept first introduced with Scarlet and Violet, but with improved graphics and broader exploration.
Even though more than a year remains until release, fans’ enthusiasm has been evident since the first trailer was released. Speculation about the game’s regions, the design of new Pokémon, and cultural inspirations within the games continues to be a topic of discussion in the Pokémon community.
If the schedule holds, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves will usher in a new era for the 10th generation of Pokémon when released globally in 2027.
Announcements of the new Pokémon series, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, have generated significant excitement among fans, particularly in Southeast Asia. Pokémon enthusiasts in Southeast Asia are buzzing following the release of the latest trailer for Pokémon Winds and Waves.
