Pokemon Winds and Waves, Inspired by Indonesia's Map, Set for 2027 Release
Pokemon Winds and Waves: The Pokémon Company has officially announced two new main-series titles in the Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves. In a virtual event held to celebrate 30 years since the release of the first Pokémon games (Pokémon Red and Blue, 1996), The Pokémon Company said Pokémon Winds and Waves will be released in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2. Neither Nintendo nor The Pokémon Company disclosed a specific date or month for the release of the 10th mainline game. In a video about three minutes long, it was shown that Pokémon Winds and Waves will adopt an open-world concept set on a tropical archipelago. In the game, players will be able to explore vast seas with clusters of islands, including dense forests, volcanoes, coastlines, rice paddies, shops, seaside towns, and underwater coral reefs. Earlier rumours suggested that a new region in this game is inspired by Indonesia and Southeast Asia. If true, this would align with earlier rumours that Pokémon Winds and Waves are inspired by Indonesia, including the shape of its area reportedly being adapted from the Indonesian archipelago map. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have not yet released a map of the region that players will explore in Pokémon Winds and Waves. As with tradition in previous Pokémon games, Browt, Pombon, or Gecqua will be the starting choices for players as they begin their adventure in Pokémon Winds and Waves, and will be companions throughout the game.
