Poins Square fire timeline: Jakarta Fire Department reveals cause
The Jakarta Fire Department extinguished a fire that engulfed the AfterHour coffee shop on the second floor of Poins Square in Lebak Bulus on Monday (25 May 2026) at 7:57pm WIB.
According to the fire department, the report was received at 7:17pm WIB via a call from a person named Mayus. The nearest team was immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene by 7:23pm WIB.
A total of 14 units and 54 firefighters were deployed to the site to tackle the blaze.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak. The only victim identified is a 36-year-old man named Eka.
He sustained 10% burns and was rushed to Selapa Hospital. The estimated damage from the incident amounts to Rp17,434,600.
The fire department explained that the incident began when employee Anto attempted to replace a 12kg gas cylinder. A faulty regulator caused gas to ignite suddenly from the gas burner during repairs.
“Following this, the coffee shop staff attempted to extinguish the flames using fire extinguishers, while building security contacted the fire department. Nearest responders then rushed to the scene,” the fire department said.
