Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynaecology Association (POGI) is strengthening regional collaboration to improve maternal and child health.

In this regard, POGI is taking steps to host the Asia & Oceania Federation of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (AOFOG) Executive Board Meeting (EBM) and Action Plan Meeting (APM) 2026, a regional forum serving as a momentum to bolster cross-country collaboration in addressing health issues, particularly those concerning women.

The General Chairman of POGI, Prof. Dr. dr. Budi Wiweko, Sp.OG(K), MPH, FRANZCOG (Hons), stated in an official release received in Jakarta on Sunday that cross-country collaboration is key to enhancing the quality of maternal and child health in Indonesia and Asia.

This forum is a tangible form of collaboration between POGI and AOFOG to promote improvements in reproductive health, not only in Indonesia but across Asia as a whole.

“Challenges such as stunting, maternal and infant mortality, and cervical cancer are not issues that can be resolved easily; strong collaboration is needed between professional organisations and governments,” said Prof. Budi.

“Through this forum, we aim to raise awareness that women’s health is a shared responsibility. We also encourage the implementation of evidence-based medicine in clinical practice, as well as the development of concrete and applicable action plans at the regional level to improve the quality of maternal and reproductive health services,” he added.

A Special Staff member of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), Dra. Siti Nia Nurhasanah Sjarifudin, viewed POGI’s initiative through SPRIN as a progressive step that needs to be strengthened nationally.

SPRIN is assessed as a national movement that plays an important role in increasing public awareness and education on women’s health.

“Collaborative activities like this are expected to drive real change, because when we educate women, we are actually building the nation,” she stated.

“This forum serves as an important platform for experts to share experiences and broaden insights in addressing clinical challenges as well as health policies in each country. We will also continue to support POGI’s initiatives, including the SPRIN programme,” she added.

Previously, the regional forum was held from 10–12 April 2026 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, attended by AOFOG delegates, POGI executives and members, as well as obstetrics and gynaecology practitioners and academics from various countries.

As part of the event series, the SPRIN Fun Walk was also held on Sunday (12/4), which not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also serves as a means to increase public awareness of the importance of women’s health.

The SPRIN Fun Walk itself is designed as an informal yet impactful activity. In addition to encouraging a healthy lifestyle, this event provides a platform for interaction among participants and a medium to raise public awareness about the importance of women’s health through the SPRIN campaign.
