POGI: Launch of R-PRIN on Kartini Day an Effort to Empower Women
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynaecology Association (POGI) has launched the Indonesian Women’s House (R-PRIN) as an integrated centre for women’s education, services, and empowerment on Kartini Day 2026 to bolster the Save Indonesian Women (SPRIN) movement into a national campaign. POGI Central Board General Chair Dr Budi Wiweko stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that SPRIN is an urgent initiative amid high maternal mortality rates (AKI) and disease burdens threatening Indonesian women. “Every day, an average of 22 mothers die from pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum complications (equivalent to one mother every hour), while thousands more lose their lives to diseases that could be prevented and detected early,” he said. This situation is further worsened by various factors, from limited access to healthcare services and regional disparities to social norms, stigma, and gender-based violence that still restrict women from obtaining decent reproductive health services. As a result, many cases are detected late and already complicated. “Without structured and massive interventions, this condition not only impacts women’s health but also threatens the quality of the nation’s generations and future,” he stated. Moving forward, they are pushing for SPRIN to evolve into a national movement involving more cross-sector stakeholders. On the same occasion, Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development (Wamendukbangga) Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka appreciated POGI’s step in launching the Indonesian Women’s House (R-PRIN) on Kartini Day. According to Isyana, empowered women are the beginning of a better future for the nation. To achieve Golden Indonesia 2045, she said, it all starts from the smallest unit, namely the family, especially mothers.
