Row over Pocong Terror Rumours in Cipondoh, Police Uncover Criminal Modus Operandi
Police speak on the Pocong-terror claims that have caused a stir and unsettled residents in Cipondoh, Tangerang Regency, Banten.
Tangerang City Police Chief, Kombes Pol Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah, said the mystical incident was likely misinformation or untrue. ‘So do not easily believe information that has not been validated and do not spread news whose truth is unclear,’ he told Antara on Wednesday, 20 May.
According to police findings, the Pocong terror is suspected to be used as a modus operandi by theft or robbery groups who intimidate residents. Thus, amid public panic and lax vigilance, the irresponsible group exploited the situation.
‘Let people not become fearful, which could be used to commit crimes such as theft or robbery,’ he said.
To provide security, Polresta Tangerang through the Bhabinkamtibmas function together with the Babinsa and local community apparatus will increase patrols in residential areas, especially at night and in the early hours. In addition, residents are urged to reactivate the community security system (siskamling) or night rounds as preventive steps to safeguard their neighborhoods. ‘We also urge the community to re-activate rounds or siskamling. Community security is a shared responsibility,’ he added.
The police will continue investigations into the viral Pocong-terror to uncover those involved and the motives behind the action. They also urged residents to report suspicious activity or anything disturbing in the vicinity via the 110 call centre. ‘We will keep probing to determine who the perpetrators are and what their real motives are,’ Indra concluded.
