Pocong Terror Rampant as Jateng Police Reveal Viral Content Motive

Pocong terror videos in various regions have caused a stir on social media. Central Java Police (Polda Jateng) stated that most of these videos were deliberately created by content creators to boost their online popularity.

This was disclosed by Polda Jateng’s Head of Public Relations, Kombes Artanto, who said the force has instructed its units to address the phenomenon.

“Regarding pocong terror, Polda Jateng is focusing on instructing its units to follow up on the issue, as this terror is in the form of a phenomenon,” Artanto told detikJateng on Friday, 29 May 2026.

He added that police are still investigating whether the pocong incidents trending online are genuine or fabricated for viral content. The alleged terror incidents reportedly occurred in Pati, Sragen, and Magelang.

“Whether the issue is factual or simply fabricated, in quotes, to attract virality or followers from content creators,” he said.

“Many have already been proven and exposed; most of these incidents are created by content creators aiming to increase their followers, hence the attention,” he continued.

Several pocong video creators have been caught in the act. The content creator in Pati was subsequently given guidance by authorities. “Several regions have apprehended suspects, catching content creators red-handed while filming pocong videos, followed by immediate guidance,” he explained.
