PO Coyo bus suddenly catches fire on Pantura route in Cirebon as flames engulf entire bus

CIREBON — A PO Coyo bus with number plate G 1216 OA caught fire while travelling along the Pantura route on Jalan Raya Pangenan in Cirebon Regency on Thursday (28/5/2026) at approximately 12:45 PM WIB. There were no fatalities in the incident.

Eno Sujana, Head of Fire Suppression, Rescue, and Infrastructure at the Cirebon Regency Fire and Rescue Department (Disdamkarmat), explained that the incident began when the bus was en route from Semarang to Cirebon. The vehicle was carrying around 20 people, including crew and passengers.

He stated that, based on crew and driver accounts, the fire was initially suspected to have started from a short circuit in the battery storage compartment located on the left side of the lower middle section of the bus. The sudden flames caused panic among the crew and passengers.

“The fire rapidly intensified,” he said on Thursday (28/5/2026).

Upon seeing the flames, the bus driver immediately pulled over the vehicle and sought assistance from local residents to extinguish the fire.
