PO Bagong to Introduce Malang-Surabaya Travel Service Using Local Electric Vehicles
Malang - A transportation company from Malang, PO Bagong, will introduce a commercial inter-city travel service within the province between Malang and Surabaya, based on electric vehicles.
The electric vehicles to be used by PO Bagong are the Transporter Lokon, a domestically produced electric vehicle manufactured by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk.
The President Director of PT Bagong Dekaka Makmur (PO Bagong), Budi Susilo, stated that the travel service is currently being prepared and is projected to start operating in mid-2026.
“Currently, we are handling the administrative requirements and permits. Our target is to complete everything by mid-year and start operations,” he said when met on Thursday (7/5/2026).
Meanwhile, Budi mentioned that electric vehicles were chosen as the fleet to support the government in using environmentally friendly vehicles.
“From a business perspective, these electric vehicles can also reduce operational costs. Especially in fuel consumption, up to 50 percent compared to conventional vehicles,” he added.
“Currently, we have prepared 4 units of the fleet to start the Malang-Surabaya travel service later,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Director and Chief Operating Officer of VKTR, V. Bimo Kurniatmoko, emphasised that the collaboration in using the Transporter Lokon electric vehicles with PO Bagong is a step to expand access to green transportation to various regions in Indonesia.
“We believe that green transportation should not be a privilege for big cities alone,” he said.
“Through collaboration with PO Bagong, we aim to expand access to electric commercial vehicles to various regions and segments of society, while providing more efficient, measurable, and sustainable solutions for transportation business operators,” he continued.
Moreover, amid pressures from surging fuel prices and global oil price instability, transportation operators are also required to be increasingly adaptive in managing their operations.
“Therefore, electric vehicles are no longer just a concept, but a real solution that has been implemented,” he concluded.
