PNM Mekaar Loan Interest Rate Slashed
The government has lowered the loan interest rate for the Membina Ekonomi Keluarga Sejahtera (Mekaar) programme managed by PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM). Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Maman Abdurrahman stated that the lending rate has been cut significantly to 8 per cent. “What was previously in the range of 18 to 25 per cent has now become 8 per cent,” Maman said in a written statement on Monday, 22 June 2026.
Maman made the statement after attending the Semester I 2026 Credit Programme Optimisation Coordination Meeting chaired by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. Maman explained that one of the meeting’s decisions was for the government to provide an interest subsidy of 10 per cent, so that customers only pay the remaining 8 per cent.
He added that the decision will be followed up by PT PNM and the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) by preparing the implementation mechanism and the necessary legal framework. “This decision has been made and will be followed up immediately. The legal framework is currently being prepared,” he said.
Maman assured that the Ministry of UMKM and the UMKM Financing Policy Committee will oversee the implementation of this policy to ensure it is well-targeted, effective, and beneficial for all ultra-micro business actors.
The Ministry of UMKM will also integrate data on PNM Mekaar financing recipients into the SAPA UMKM platform – an integrated digital super-app managed by the Ministry of UMKM in cooperation with the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas. Through this integration, UMKM data and services held by ministries, agencies, regional governments, and other stakeholders will be connected within a single platform.
Maman continued that the decision to lower the Mekaar Programme loan interest rate was a directive from President Prabowo Subianto. One of the considerations, according to the Golkar Party politician, is that for more than a decade, millions of PNM Mekaar customers have borne relatively high loan costs.
Therefore, Maman said, the government decided to lower the interest rate to ease the financing burden. This policy also aims to provide greater room for business actors to develop their enterprises.
According to Maman, the size of the loan costs so far has also been influenced by the intensive mentoring model run by PNM through account officers and account advisors. In addition to disbursing financing, they provide mentoring, coaching, and monitoring of the customers’ business development.
