PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation through the PNM Green Impact programme by simultaneously planting 22,000 mangrove trees across 18 coastal areas in Indonesia on Sunday, 26 July 2026. The action, held in conjunction with World Mangrove Day, involved local governments, environmental communities, residents, and PNM-assisted customers.

The programme is part of PNM’s ongoing commitment to preserving coastal ecosystems. Since 2024, the company has planted a total of 196,700 mangrove trees across 58 locations throughout Indonesia, as a measure to support environmental sustainability while strengthening the economic resilience of coastal communities.

PNM views environmental conservation and economic empowerment as interconnected. Many of PNM’s customers depend on coastal ecosystems for their livelihoods, including in the fisheries sector, marine product cultivation, trade, and culinary businesses based on fishermen’s catches. Environmental degradation and coastal abrasion threaten not only the ecosystem but also the sustainability of these livelihoods.

PNM President Director Kindaris stated that sustainable empowerment must provide benefits for both current and future generations. "We believe that empowerment is not just about today, but also about safeguarding opportunities for the next generation. When we plant mangroves, we are not merely planting trees, but providing protection for the environment, ensuring the sustainability of community enterprises, and offering hope for thousands of families who depend on coastal ecosystems," he said.

Beyond protecting coastal areas from abrasion, seawater intrusion, and extreme waves, mangroves also serve as habitats for various marine biota and play a significant role in carbon absorption. The existence of mangrove forests is considered crucial for maintaining ecosystem balance while supporting the economic activities of communities reliant on coastal resources.

PNM also sees economic potential that can be developed from mangrove ecosystems, such as mangrove nurseries, ecotourism development, environmentally friendly aquaculture, and the processing of value-added mangrove-based products. These opportunities are expected to create new jobs and improve the welfare of coastal communities.

Through the PNM Green Impact programme, the company continues to emphasise that community empowerment is achieved not only through financing access and business mentoring but also through environmental conservation efforts as a foundation for a sustainable economy.
