Economic hardship remains one of the main obstacles for children from underprivileged families in continuing their education. In response, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), under the auspices of Danantara Indonesia, has distributed scholarships to 1,590 children from underprivileged families. Data from UNICEF notes that around 4.3 million children and adolescents aged 7 to 18 in Indonesia are still out of school. The risk of dropping out of school is much higher for poor families, persons with disabilities, and children in disadvantaged regions. Additionally, data from the 2025 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) shows that the reason of having no funds contributes 20.35 percent to the number of children not in school. To address this, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), under the auspices of Danantara Indonesia, announced the recipients of the PNM Scholarship 2026 programme. The scholarship is awarded to high-achieving children of active customers of the Mekaar and ULaMM programmes across various regions. Nationally, 1,590 children of PNM customers have been selected to receive this educational scholarship. The financial assistance covers various levels of education, from primary school and special needs schools to university. PNM President Director Kindaris stated that education is an important path to opening better opportunities for underprivileged families. He said this support is PNM’s way of being closer to customers’ families, not just in the business aspect. ‘PNM believes every child has the right to learn and achieve a better future. Through the PNM Scholarship, we want to be present to accompany our customers’ families not only in business but also in safeguarding their children’s hopes,’ Kindaris said in a press release. This approach marks an expansion of the empowerment scope that PNM has been running. Previously, PNM’s support for customers focused more on strengthening ultra-micro businesses.
