PNM Creates Decent Schools to Nurture Hope for Children in Remote Areas
For children living in frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions, limited educational facilities remain a daily challenge. In Wae Moto Village, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, inadequate classrooms and sanitation facilities are part of the students’ everyday reality. To mark National Children’s Day 2026, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) contributed to improving the learning environment in the area. Through its PNM Peduli programme, the company revitalised SD Inpres Wae Moto to provide a safer, more comfortable, and healthier school for the students. The revitalisation included repairing classrooms, improving sanitation facilities and access to cleanliness, and providing school infrastructure tailored to the school’s needs. For the children of Wae Moto, school is not just a place to gain knowledge but also a space to build hope for a better future. Education is seen as a pathway out of the limitations faced by communities in 3T areas. This spirit is embodied by Mariva Yankezia, a 10-year-old student at SD Inpres Wae Moto, who remains enthusiastic about learning to repay her parents’ hard work. PNM President Director Kindaris stated that the company’s empowerment efforts are not only aimed at strengthening the businesses of underprivileged women through the Membina Ekonomi Keluarga Sejahtera (Mekaar) programme but are also intended to have an impact on the future of their families, including their children’s education. He noted that a decent learning environment is a crucial factor in supporting educational quality, and that proper sanitation facilities help maintain student health for more optimal learning. PNM believes that empowerment should not stop at improving the economy of its female clients but must also benefit the next generation. At SD Inpres Wae Moto, 14 of the 64 students are children of PNM Mekaar clients. Through this school revitalisation, PNM hopes that children in 3T areas will have a better learning environment, enabling them to continue studying, develop their potential, and keep their hopes alive for a brighter future.
