DEPOK — Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ) will summon its student, identified as SB, following an incident in which he shouted whilst pointing at police officers during a demonstration in front of Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) on Monday, 2 March 2026. The summons is also related to SB’s use of a University of Indonesia alumni jacket whilst protesting.

“The student in question will be questioned by the Deputy Director of Student Affairs and his team this afternoon,” stated PNJ Public Relations Officer Soraya Almas Adlina when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday.

Meanwhile, PNJ’s Deputy Director of Student Affairs, Nurul Intan Pratiwi, clarified that SB’s participation in the demonstration was based on personal initiative and was not part of any official activity organised by PNJ’s Student Affairs division. According to investigations, SB was not registered as part of any protest contingent coordinated by PNJ student organisations.

“The individual recorded in the video was not registered in the protest contingent coordinated by PNJ student organisations and was known to have attended in a personal capacity outside official coordination,” Nurul stated on Monday.

PNJ regularly reminds students to maintain ethical standards, safety, and institutional reputation in all public activities.

Previously, it was reported that a protester shouted whilst pointing at police officers securing the student demonstration in front of Mabes Polri on Friday, 27 February 2026. In the circulating video, a man wearing a yellow alumni jacket raised his index finger directly in front of a police officer’s face, who remained unmoved.

After the action, SB explained his reasons for this behaviour. He claimed to recognise one of the police officers on duty. According to SB, the officer, identified by initial S, had previously beaten him during a demonstration in late August 2025. At that time, he said, the officer was not wearing the brown uniform as worn during the latest operation.

“When it was before Affan Kurniawan was run over, I wanted to enter the GBK Arena with eleven friends. He inspected me, I asked ‘Are you police?’ He didn’t answer, I was immediately pushed, thrown to the ground, and beaten,” SB explained to journalists on Friday.

SB claimed another police officer had helped him escape from that situation. He stated that the officer guarding during the latest demonstration had a face resembling the person who had previously beaten him, and that he had managed to record the officer’s face on his phone.

This incident was initially linked to the University of Indonesia because SB was recorded wearing a yellow alumni jacket from the institution. However, the university has denied any connection and confirmed that SB is neither an active student nor part of the campus.
