PNJ Processing Sanctions for Same-Sex Kissing Incident on Campus
A video circulating on social media, depicting two men kissing believed to be students at the Politeknik Negeri Jakarta (PNJ) campus in Depok, West Java, has prompted an investigation by the university. The footage, recorded from within a room by a witness, shows the two men engaging in the act on campus premises.
The PNJ Rectorate is currently processing the incident and conducting examinations of the alleged individuals. Soraya, a PNJ Public Relations staff member, confirmed that one of the men in the viral video is a student at the campus, while the other is an external party not affiliated with the institution.
Soraya stated that PNJ does not condone the actions of the student, identified by the initials ARM, and the individual AW, regarding the deviant sexual activity on campus. She noted that the university is investigating the matter further, though details regarding the chronology are being withheld to protect the privacy of those involved.
The university has already conducted a hearing to gather statements from the parties involved. The administration is now reviewing potential sanctions in coordination with the Director and Vice Director, in accordance with existing educational regulations.
The incident, which reportedly took place on Tuesday (2/6) in a corridor near the library, was also captured in footage showing other students approaching the pair to question their identities.
In response to the controversy, the PNJ Student Executive Board (BEM PNJ) issued an official statement asserting that any violation of norms, regulations, or codes of ethics within the campus environment must be handled seriously through established mechanisms. The BEM PNJ, signed by Chairman Muhammad Farrel Adyatma Izaaz, emphasised that the handling of the case should focus on the actions committed—such as indecency in public spaces—rather than the identities or assumptions regarding the individuals involved. The student body has called for transparency from the university administration and urged the academic community to maintain ethics and order to ensure the campus remains a safe and dignified learning environment.
