PNJ Explains Incident of Same-Sex Students Caught Kissing, Reviewing Sanctions

The Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ) has provided a clarification regarding the incident that occurred on 2 June, involving same-sex individuals caught kissing within the campus environment. PNJ Public Relations staff, Soraya, confirmed to reporters in Depok on Wednesday (3/6/2026) that the incident was witnessed by several students.

Following the event, the university took preventive measures to secure the individuals involved and prevent potential unrest from the campus community. Soraya confirmed that one of the individuals, identified by the initials ARM, is a PNJ student, while the other, AW, is an external party. Both were involved in acts deemed indecent within the campus grounds.

While the university does not condone the actions taken by the individuals, Soraya emphasised that the rights of the parties involved must still be upheld. The university administration, including the Deputy Director for Student Affairs and the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs, has met with the individuals at the campus security post to provide information and gather statements.

The PNJ Disciplinary Committee is currently reviewing the incident to determine the appropriate sanctions in accordance with the university’s regulations and the authority of the relevant units.

The incident took place on Tuesday (2/6/2026) near the Library Building area. Footage circulated on social media showed two men kissing, recorded from within a room, and subsequently being confronted by students questioning their identities.

The PNJ Student Executive Board (BEM PNJ) has also issued a statement, asserting that any violation of norms, regulations, codes of ethics, and existing campus provisions must be addressed seriously and through the appropriate established mechanisms.
