PNJ Educates Families on Sharia-Based Digital Financial Literacy

A Community Service (PkM) team from the Accounting Department of Jakarta State Polytechnic (PNJ) has provided education to housewives in the Regol Wetan area, Sumedang, West Java, to enhance literacy in Sharia-based digital finance.

Atif Windawati, a member of the PNJ PkM team, stated in a written statement that the initiative provides education on how to structure family financial planning based on Sharia principles. This includes separating essential needs from wants, setting aside emergency funds, and building consistent saving habits.

The method used in this mentoring is Participatory Action Learning (PAL), where participants do not merely listen to the material but actively practice recording their respective household cash flows under the guidance of speakers and the implementation team. Through this approach, participants are expected to immediately apply the knowledge gained upon returning home.

According to Windawati, financial recording is not just a clerical task but a foundation for families to manage their sustenance more calmly and purposefully in accordance with Sharia principles. She expressed hope that this habit of recording would be maintained by participants routinely, beyond the duration of the mentoring session.

During the event held on Friday (31/7), participants also witnessed a demonstration of a web-based digital financial recording application developed by the PNJ Financial Accounting D4 Study Programme Assistant Expert Team. The participants showed great enthusiasm in creating accounts and attempting to record expenses directly, fostering optimism that the habit of financial tracking will continue.

In addition to direct mentoring, each participant was provided with a pocketbook titled “Smart Book for Managing Family Finances.” The book contains simple guides on managing household budgets, from recording income and expenditures to tips on setting aside emergency funds and family savings.

The PNJ Accounting Department’s implementation team hopes that such activities will not be limited to a single meeting but can be continued and replicated in other areas of Sumedang. The ultimate goal is to increase the number of families capable of managing finances independently and according to Sharia principles, thereby creating what is known as a “maslahah family”—a family that is prosperous both physically and spiritually. The community service activity, titled “Digitalisation of Sharia Financial Planning,” was held at the Sumedang Creative Centre, Jalan Cut Nyak Dien.
