PNI-Supeni cancels rally

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The Indonesian Nationalist Party led by Supeni (PNI-Supeni) called off its final campaign rally here on Monday after party branch executives and supporters disagreed on campaign methods.

"People insisted on holding a street rally, but we preferred an indoor assembly as we used to do. Because no agreement was reached, we decided to cancel the election campaign," branch head Rasiu told Antara.

In the absence of a rally, party executives called on their supporters to regroup and turn their minds to preparations for the election day.

Rasiu said the party branch had from the beginning agreed not to allow its supporters to take to street for fears of accidents and clashes with other parties.

He said his party was set to eradicate human rights violations, promote the enforcement of law and democratic principles and combat corrupt, collusive and nepotistic practices.

In particular, he said, PNI-Supeni would fight to maximize the exploitation of the province's prime natural resources, such as fish and minerals.
