PM's daughter has water woes
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Although authorities say the water supply
situation in the Malaysian capital is improving, Prime Minister
Mahathir Mohamad's daughter complained yesterday that her tap had
been dry for two days.
"I returned from a much needed retreat to a house with no
water," Marina Mahathir wrote in her regular column in the Star
newspaper. "For two whole days. Without any warning. Not
pleasant."
She criticized officials for promising that the water
situation would be rectified in December. "Pardon me if I am not
exactly thrilled."
Nearly 2 million residents of Kuala Lumpur and suburbs have
not had a regular water supply for three months. Many
neighborhoods are dependent on water trucks that arrive a few
times each week.
Marina Mahathir, 41, is often boldly critical of policies of
her father's government and Malaysian society in her column.
