Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Philip Morris International (PMI) continues to develop its business transformation towards smoke-free products, including IQOS (I-Quit-Ordinary-Smoking), alongside conventional tobacco products.

Vassilis Gkatzelis, President of East and Southeast Asia, Pacific and Global Travel Retail at Philip Morris International, stated that PMI has invested more than USD 6.5 billion in Indonesia and remains optimistic about the country’s prospects as a long-term investment destination.

Through its subsidiary and affiliated company PT HM Sampoerna (Tbk), PMI has affirmed its role in the Indonesian economy. The company currently employs more than 90,000 workers both directly and indirectly, operating 52 production facilities.

PMI also empowers and collaborates with 26,000 tobacco farmers and four million retailers across Indonesia. PMI’s products are not only marketed domestically but also exported to more than 30 countries worldwide.

One of PMI’s product innovations is the development of alternatives to conventional cigarettes through the construction of ASEAN’s first smoke-free alternative product factory, located in Karawang, West Java. Additionally, a laboratory has been established involving 200 Indonesian scientists to develop products that can reduce the harmful effects of tobacco products.
