PMII Student Protest at DPR Ends Without Meeting Lawmakers

A demonstration by the Indonesian Muslim Students Movement (PMII) in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, disbanded on Monday evening, 22 June 2026. The protesters returned to their buses and left the area after concluding the rally by singing the national anthem, Indonesia Raya.

The protest, themed ‘Total Evaluation of Prabowo-Gibran’s Red and White Cabinet’, began around 4 p.m. WIB. The PMII members initially gathered at the Patung Kuda area before marching to the DPR complex. They carried five key demands, including a comprehensive evaluation of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme, a review of ministers deemed incompetent, and the dissolution of the National Nutrition Agency and the Red and White Village Cooperatives.

A minor disturbance occurred when students burned a mock coffin as a symbol of what they called the ‘death of democracy’. ‘We burn this coffin as a sign that we are fed up with the current government, friends,’ an orator declared from a command vehicle. Police officers moved to extinguish the flames, leading to a brief scuffle, but the situation was quickly brought under control.

Unlike a student protest the previous Friday, which was received by DPR leaders, no members of the House came out to meet the PMII demonstrators. The rally concluded without further incident.
