PMI to Send Medicine Aid to Iran
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) will send humanitarian aid in the form of medicines to Iran, which is currently embroiled in a war against the United States and Israel.
“I received the Iranian Ambassador. We discussed humanitarian matters, how the Iranian people are victims in the war with America and this,” said PMI General Chairman Jusuf Kalla (JK) during a press conference at the PMI Central Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
This 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia had just received a visit from the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Boroujerdi.
The two held a closed-door meeting before providing statements to the media.
“Therefore, we have decided, in accordance with Iran’s needs, to send medicines as required there through countries close to Iran such as Pakistan, Turkey, and others via the local Red Crescent or Red Crescent Moon,” JK added.
The humanitarian aid for Iran will be purchased from the nearest countries and delivered to Iran.
Thus, the aid will not be prepared and dispatched directly from Indonesia.
“I also wish to convey our appreciation and thanks for the support provided by the Indonesian government, the Indonesian nation, various government and non-governmental organisations, mass organisations, and others to us in the current situation,” said Boroujerdi.
