TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Chairperson Jusuf Kalla reaffirmed his support for Palestinians during a meeting with Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein, the Grand Imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, in Jakarta on Monday.

Kalla said PMI, as a humanitarian organization committed to the principles of neutrality and impartiality, would continue providing assistance to Palestinians through various humanitarian programs.

“PMI has a non-negotiable humanitarian mandate. Regardless of the political situation, we will continue to be there for the Palestinian people,” Kalla said in a statement.

He stressed that Indonesia’s support and solidarity with Palestinians would continue. PMI, he said, is committed to providing medical assistance, logistical aid, and psychosocial support to Palestinians.

PMI to Continue Humanitarian Assistance

Kalla said Indonesia would continue standing with the Palestinian people through humanitarian assistance and efforts to promote a just and lasting peace.

“Indonesia will always stand with the Palestinian people. Through PMI, we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance and advocate for a just and lasting peace,” said Kalla, who served as Indonesia’s 10th and 12th vice president.

The meeting was held at the residence of the former vice president and was also attended by Palestinian President’s Special Envoy and Adviser Mahmoud Al-Habbash and Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattari.

Al-Habbash expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s warm welcome and continued support. He described Indonesia as a true friend that has consistently supported the Palestinian cause in various international forums.

Al-Aqsa Imam Gives Kalla Palestinian Keffiyeh

During the meeting, Kalla received a Palestinian keffiyeh as a souvenir, which Sheikh Muhammad Ahmad Hussein placed around his neck.

According to PMI, the traditional scarf was not merely a souvenir but also symbolized appreciation and recognition of Indonesia’s role, particularly PMI’s continued humanitarian assistance to Gaza and other parts of the Palestinian territories.
