PMI Sukabumi Distributes Clean Water, Educates Public on Wise Usage Amid Prolonged Dry Season

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in Sukabumi City, West Java, is intensifying the distribution of clean water aid following a surge in demand during the prolonged dry season. In addition to delivering assistance, PMI is educating the public on the wise use of clean water.

Head of the Disaster Management Division at PMI Sukabumi City, HR Imran Wardhani, stated that education is a crucial part of efforts to address the impacts of drought. The prolonged dry season not only triggers a clean water crisis but also increases the risk of health problems due to declining sanitation quality. Public education is therefore part of a hygiene promotion campaign.

Imran explained that PMI volunteers are using pictorial educational media to engage directly with residents, teaching them to conserve water, maintain environmental cleanliness, and adopt clean and healthy living behaviours. He noted that demand for drought assistance continues to rise across several areas in Sukabumi City. PMI is strengthening collaboration with the local water utility Perumda Air Minum Tirta Bumi Wibawa, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and the local government to ensure the response not only meets immediate water needs but also builds public awareness of maintaining health. He emphasised that changing community behaviour is a long-term investment in facing drought disasters.
