Jakarta - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) is strengthening regional collaboration in disaster management through activities under the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) Executive - Leadership in Emergency and Disaster Management Programme (ACE-LEDMP).

PMI Secretary General A.M. Fachir in Jakarta on Friday stated that as part of this series of activities, his organisation received a visit from 22 staff members of National Disaster Management Organisations (NDMOs) from nine ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia).

“These participants, with 3-5 years of work experience, are attending hands-on learning sessions to understand PMI’s role and capacity as part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,” Fachir said.

According to him, this visit serves as an important moment to share best practices while strengthening humanitarian networks in the region.

“As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, PMI plays a role as a government partner in disaster management. Through this visit, we hope participants can share experiences on how this role is implemented,” he said.

“Crises are always larger than any single organisation. Therefore, collaboration between governments, communities, NGOs, and the Red Cross is key to effectively assisting the public. Let us continue to strengthen partnerships so we are ready to respond to crises across various countries,” said Alex.

The ACE-LEDMP programme in 2026 will take place from 30 April to 1 May 2026 in Jakarta and aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the international humanitarian system as well as strengthen cross-border coordination in facing emergency and disaster situations.
