PMI DIY honours 99 blood donors for 75 donations
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta on Sunday presented awards to 99 voluntary blood donors who have donated their blood 75 times. The humanitarian appreciation was handed over directly by Deputy Governor of DIY KGPAA Paku Alam X together with Chair of PMI DIY GBPH Prabukusumo to the donors from five regencies and cities in the region. KGPAA Paku Alam X expressed appreciation for the donors’ discipline, dedication to maintaining health, and social sensitivity in answering the humanitarian call. He also affirmed that such real action proves regional progress is not only measured by physical development, but also by how strongly citizens look after, support, and give life to one another. “There is discipline, willingness to maintain health, social sensitivity, and loyalty to the humanitarian call. Blood donors have demonstrated that caring is not merely words but deeds repeated with awareness and sincerity,” said KGPAA Paku Alam X, who is also a member of the PMI DIY Honorary Board. Prabukusumo added that every drop of blood donated on the basis of love has sustained breath and brought relief to many families of patients in hospitals. “This certificate will indeed never be enough to repay your sincerity, but may it become a symbol reminding of kindness as well as inspiration for the wider community,” said Prabukusumo. He added that PMI receives a blood service mandate through Law Number 1 of 2018 on Red Cross and Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health, where these regulations play a crucial role in campaigning for voluntary blood donation. “The availability of safe, affordable, and quality blood is highly dependent on the existence of voluntary blood donors. Promotional efforts need to be carried out routinely, widely, and proactively to increase the number of new donors while retaining regular voluntary blood donors,” he stated.
