PMI DIY honours 99 blood donors for 75 donations

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta presented awards on Sunday to 99 voluntary blood donors who have donated blood 75 times.

This humanitarian appreciation was presented directly by the Deputy Governor of DIY, KGPAA Paku Alam X, alongside the Chairman of PMI DIY, GBPH Prabukusumo, to donors hailing from five regencies and cities within the region.

KGPAA Paku Alam X expressed his appreciation for the donors’ discipline, commitment to maintaining their health, and social sensitivity in responding to humanitarian calls. He emphasised that such tangible actions prove that regional progress is measured not only by physical development but also by how strongly citizens support and sustain one another.

“There is discipline, a willingness to maintain health, social sensitivity, and loyalty to the humanitarian call. Blood donors have proven that care is not merely words, but actions repeated with awareness and sincerity,” said KGPAA Paku Alam X, who is also a member of the PMI DIY Board of Honour.

Prabukusumo added that every drop of blood donated out of compassion has helped sustain lives and provided relief to many families of patients in hospitals. “This certificate will never be enough to repay your sincerity, but may serve as a symbol of kindness and an inspiration to the wider community,” he said.

He further noted that PMI holds a mandate for blood services under Law Number 1 of 2018 on Red Cross activities and Law Number 17 of 2023 on Health, regulations which play a crucial role in campaigning for voluntary blood donation. “The availability of safe, affordable, and high-quality blood depends heavily on the presence of voluntary blood donors. Promotional efforts must be carried out routinely, extensively, and proactively to increase the number of new donors while maintaining regular voluntary donors,” he concluded.
