Banda Aceh — The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) has deployed heavy equipment donated by PT Bukaka to assist in cleaning up environmental damage from flash floods in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province.

“The deployment of heavy equipment is crucial to accelerate the post-disaster recovery process,” PMI’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Coordinator Muslim M Aji said in Aceh Tamiang on Saturday.

The heavy equipment deployed in the recovery operation comprises four SH210 excavators, three HOWO dump trucks, and one wheel loader. The machinery is used to remove mud, timber, and waste that have piled up in residents’ settlements and public facilities as a result of the flash floods.

He said this activity is part of environmental restoration efforts so that communities can resume normal activities.

With the support of PMI’s heavy equipment and the assistance from PT Bukaka, the cleaning process can be carried out more quickly so that the community environment can again be habitable,” he said.

“Moreover, the flash floods left behind a lot of materials such as mud, logs, and waste that cannot be cleaned manually,” he added.

He added that this activity is part of PMI’s commitment to supporting the recovery of disaster-affected communities, particularly in the water, sanitation, and hygiene sector.

The cleaning operation, he continued, involves PMI volunteers, heavy equipment operators, and local community participation that joins in a mutual effort to clean the environment.

“Hopefully this recovery process can help speed up the revival of the Aceh Tamiang community after the disaster and reduce health risks from the polluted environment,” said Muslim M Aji.
