PMI Central Jakarta assists Kemayoran fire victims

The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Central Jakarta has deployed medical teams and ambulances to the fire site in the Pasar Jiung area of Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, to provide first aid to affected residents. PMI Central Jakarta Chairman Asep Djuanda, interviewed at the evacuation site on Jusuf Hamka Field, Benyamin Suaeb Street, early Tuesday morning, stated that two ambulances were dispatched immediately after the fire report. In addition to medical aid, PMI is preparing tents to accommodate residents who have lost their homes. ‘We are preparing two tents that will arrive shortly to shelter the displaced,’ Asep said. Regarding logistics, particularly food supplies for evacuees, Asep said coordination is ongoing with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Social Affairs Department. Asep explained that PMI handles distribution during nighttime, while the Social Affairs Department manages daytime needs. On post-disaster trauma handling, especially for children, Asep confirmed they have specific procedures for evacuation and recovery. However, PMI is currently prioritising the emergency response phase. ‘For trauma recovery, we have procedures for evacuation and recovery. At present, we are coordinating with the provincial PMI and focusing on emergency response,’ he added. PMI teams remain on standby at the site to monitor residents’ health and support local government disaster response efforts. The fire, which broke out in the densely populated Kampung Pasar Haji Jiung area on Kemayoran Gempol Street, Kebon Kosong, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 1 June 2026, at around 8:55 PM WIB. DKI Jakarta’s Disaster Management Agency deployed 35 fire trucks and 165 personnel to extinguish the blaze, which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. According to current data, the incident is estimated to have affected approximately 250 homes and 330 households. Authorities continue to manage the situation and conduct damage assessments at the scene, with firefighting and cooling operations ongoing until 3:00 AM WIB.
