PMI accelerates pipeline project to address post-disaster water crisis in Aceh
The Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Aceh Province is accelerating pipeline construction and borewell projects to address the clean water crisis affecting several areas following the disaster. ‘We aim to restore clean water supplies as quickly as possible,’ said Fauzi Husaini, Head of the Disaster Management Division (Kadiv PB) for PMI Aceh, in Banda Aceh on Friday. He stated that PMI is prioritising the restoration of clean water access for disaster-affected communities following damage to local water infrastructure, with pipeline projects and borewell construction among the key measures. The pipeline project is currently being intensively implemented in Aceh Tengah Regency, covering Tirmiara Village (Rusip Antara Subdistrict), Kala Bintang Village, and Linung Bulen Village (Bintang Subdistrict). He explained that the project serves as both an emergency measure and a long-term solution critical for restoring residents’ activities. ‘We have prioritised pipeline and borewell projects to meet basic water needs for residents whose water networks were completely severed by the recent natural disaster,’ he said. To ensure effective field operations, PMI has deployed at least 21 volunteers across the three main sites. He added that volunteer efforts began in mid-May, ahead of Eid al-Adha, and are targeted for completion by the end of June 2026. With the completion of this clean water ecosystem restoration project, PMI Aceh hopes to maintain stable environmental health for the community post-disaster. ‘These mitigation and recovery efforts underscore PMI’s commitment to providing timely and targeted responses in all disaster-affected areas of Aceh,’ Fauzi Husni said.
