PM Wong optimistic Singapore-Indonesia partnership will grow stronger
Singapore has confidence in Indonesia’s future. We want Indonesia to succeed because our futures are closely connected.
Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong affirmed his optimism about Indonesia’s future and stated his country’s commitment to continuing to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations.
In a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Leaders’ Retreat at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, Lawrence Wong said that a relationship built on a foundation of mutual trust, mutual respect, and mutual understanding forms a strong basis for the Indonesia-Singapore partnership.
“Singapore has confidence in Indonesia’s future. We want Indonesia to succeed because our futures are closely connected,” Wong said.
According to Wong, this optimism is reflected in Singapore’s investment commitments, which have continued to flow into Indonesia over the years.
He said these investments not only bring capital flows but also drive business growth, downstream industry development, digital infrastructure construction, and job creation.
“These investments are not just capital flows. They create businesses, downstream industries, digital infrastructure, opportunities and good jobs for the Indonesian people. And our companies continue to see many opportunities here,” he stated.
He also cited the Kendal Industrial Park, which has reached full capacity, as proof of the successful collaboration between Indonesia and Singapore. The area will be expanded by approximately 1,000 hectares to attract new investment and create more jobs.
“Kendal Industrial Park is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It has reached full capacity and will develop another 1,000 hectares. This expansion will create more investment, jobs, and support Indonesia’s growth,” he said.
“We are also committed to strengthening our supply chain resilience, so that both countries can better support one another as we navigate other external shocks,” he added.
Wong added that Indonesia and Singapore share a common vision to unlock new cooperation opportunities to enhance the competitiveness of both countries while strengthening the ASEAN region.
“By working together, we can create more opportunities for our people, strengthen our resilience, and make both our countries and the ASEAN region more competitive,” he said.
