PM Sharif Affirms Pakistan-Iran 'Brotherhood'

Burgenstock (ANTARA) - Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Iran-Pakistan relations as a ‘brotherhood’ after meeting with members of the Iranian delegation during negotiations with the United States in Switzerland. The talks took place following the signing of a peace Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week. In a statement to the media after the meeting on Sunday (21/6), Sharif stressed the closeness of the two neighbouring countries and their shared commitment to fostering regional development. He said Iran and Pakistan are both striving to achieve prosperity in the region. The negotiations in Switzerland mark the beginning of a 60-day Iran-US negotiation period, as stipulated in the Islamabad MoU, to discuss a final agreement to permanently end the war and resolve various outstanding issues. Pakistan and Qatar acted as mediators in the talks that produced the agreement. Sharif attended the meeting as part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to facilitate the negotiation process.
