PM Modi: Visit to Prambanan Special Because of My Friend Prabowo

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi felt honoured to visit the Prambanan Temple, a sacred site for Hindus. He noted that Prambanan is the second-largest Hindu temple complex in Southeast Asia.

“Today, here I have the honour of offering prayers in the second-largest Hindu temple complex in Southeast Asia. This temple houses the sacred statues of Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Lord Ganesha. For centuries, devotees have worshipped here with deep faith and devotion,” said Modi at the Prambanan Temple courtyard, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

Modi admitted he did not expect to be able to pray at Prambanan, stating that the moment felt sacred to him.

“Today, I also have the honour of offering prayers in the most traditional manner and paying my respects in this holy temple,” he said.

“This has become one of the most sacred, most extraordinary, and most devotional moments of my life,” Modi continued.

He also mentioned that this visit was made even more special because he was accompanied by President Prabowo Subianto, whom he referred to as a friend.

“My friend President Prabowo; his presence here makes this event far more special. This occasion becomes more significant because I have the opportunity to visit this sacred temple complex alongside my friend, President Prabowo,” he remarked.

“I pray here for a stronger relationship between India and Indonesia, to deepen the friendship between our peoples, for the welfare of the people of our two nations, and for the rapid progress and prosperity of both countries,” Modi concluded.
