PM Modi Receives Indonesia's Highest Honour from Prabowo, Matching Nehru

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto conferred the Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna, the country’s highest state honour, upon Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday. The award was presented during a joint press conference with Modi.

“Today, as President of the Republic of Indonesia, I extend my gratitude to His Excellency the Prime Minister for accepting the highest honour of the Republic of Indonesia, the Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna. I thank Prime Minister Modi for his willingness to accept it,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo explained that the honour was awarded for Modi’s contributions to maintaining and enhancing Indonesia-India cooperation, as well as his support for various programmes and projects aiding Indonesia’s development. The head of state also recounted that the decoration had previously been awarded to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for his role in strengthening India-Indonesia ties and his pioneering work in the Non-Aligned Movement.

Prabowo further emphasised that India and Indonesia share a long cultural and historical background, making Modi’s visit a testament to the commitment of both nations to reinforcing their longstanding relationship.
