PM Modi Prays for India-Indonesia Prosperity During Prambanan Temple Visit

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi utilised his visit to Prambanan Temple to pray and pay homage at the sacred Hindu site, held alongside the launch of an India-Indonesia collaboration for the temple’s conservation. Following the launch ceremony, PM Modi shared his impressions of Prambanan Temple, including the prayers he offered during his worship. “In this temple complex, there are sacred statues of Lord Shiva, Durga, and Ganesha. For centuries, devotees have worshipped here with full faith and devotion. Today, I had the honour of offering prayers and paying my respects at this holy place. This moment is one of the most sacred, most memorable, and most devotional experiences of my life,” PM Modi said during a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at Prambanan Temple, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Wednesday. PM Modi continued, “This opportunity is even more special because I visited this sacred temple with my friend, President Prabowo. I prayed that the relationship between India and Indonesia grows ever stronger, that the people-to-people friendship between our two countries deepens, that the citizens of both nations are always prosperous, and that India and Indonesia continue to progress and thrive.” On the same occasion, PM Modi also touched upon the India-Indonesia collaboration to restore Prambanan Temple, praising President Prabowo in the process. “President Prabowo, as a soldier, understands how to devise a plan. Therefore, when he planned this restoration, there was a clear strategy. With that planning, I am confident the restoration will be completed ahead of schedule,” PM Modi said. PM Modi then revealed that President Prabowo had asked him to promise to return to Indonesia in 2029 for the inauguration ceremony of the restored Prambanan Temple, a request he accepted. “We will complete this work before 2029, and together we will celebrate the completion of the restoration and the inauguration of this temple complex as a grand celebration,” PM Modi stated. PM Modi’s visit to Prambanan Temple was part of his state visit to Indonesia from 6 to 8 July 2026. After concluding the event at Prambanan Temple, President Prabowo escorted PM Modi to Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA). The Indian presidential aircraft, Air India One, carrying PM Modi, took off from YIA on Wednesday afternoon, escorted by three Indonesian Air Force fighter jets while in Indonesian airspace.
