PM Modi Pledges Return to Indonesia for Prambanan Temple Inauguration Before 2029

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to return to Indonesia before 2029 to inaugurate the Prambanan Temple Complex, following the completion of a restoration project undertaken jointly by Indonesia and India.

Modi made this commitment during a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Prambanan Temple Complex, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday.

“Today, my friend, President Prabowo, asked me to promise that this work will be completed before 202ng and that I must return to Indonesia to inaugurate the temple complex once the restoration is finished. In the presence of everyone here, I reaffirm that promise,” he stated.

According to Modi, the restoration of Prambanan will be completed before 2029 through the collaboration between Indonesia and India, which will then be celebrated together as a major event.

Modi also praised President Prabowo’s planning regarding the implementation of the Prambanan restoration.

“President Prabowo, as a soldier, understands how to organise planning. Therefore, when he planned this restoration, there was a clear strategy. With such planning, I am confident that the restoration work will be completed ahead of schedule,” he said.

On this occasion, Modi expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian people, who have preserved this cultural heritage for over 1,200 years, as well as to the government and managers who continue to contribute to its preservation.

“President Prabowo’s attention to every detail of my agenda and its excellent execution has left me speechless,” he added.

President Prabowo and PM Modi previously launched the Indonesia–India collaboration for the conservation of the Prambanan Temple cultural heritage, marked by the unveiling of a cooperation plaque within the Prambanan Temple Tourism Area.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon previously explained that the collaboration would encompass the conservation and renovation of Prambanan, including the revitalisation of the perwara temples within the complex.
