PM Modi Pledges Return to Indonesia for Prambanan Temple Inauguration Before 2029

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to return to Indonesia before 2029 to inaugurate the Prambanan Temple complex, once the joint restoration project undertaken by Indonesia and India is completed. The commitment was made by Modi during a joint statement with President Prabowo Subianto at the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta on Wednesday. “Today, my friend President Prabowo asked me to promise that this work will be completed before 2029 and that I must return to Indonesia to inaugurate the temple complex after the restoration is finished. In front of everyone present, I reaffirm that promise,” he stated. According to Modi, the restoration of Prambanan Temple will be completed before 2029 through collaboration between Indonesia and India, and will subsequently be celebrated together as a grand festival. Modi also praised President Prabowo’s planning for the restoration of Prambanan Temple. “President Prabowo, as a soldier, understands how to formulate a plan. Therefore, when he planned this restoration, there was a clear strategy. With that planning, I am confident the restoration work will be completed ahead of schedule,” he said. On the occasion, Modi expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian people who have safeguarded the cultural heritage for over 1,200 years, as well as to the government and the managers who continue to contribute to its preservation. “President Prabowo’s attention to every detail of my agenda and its excellent execution leaves me speechless,” he said. President Prabowo and PM Modi previously launched the Indonesia–India collaboration for the cultural heritage conservation of Prambanan Temple, marked by the unveiling of a cooperation plaque in the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park area. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon earlier explained that the collaboration would encompass the conservation and restoration of Prambanan Temple, including the revitalisation of the ancillary temples within the temple complex.
