PM Modi Plays Angklung, a Gift from Prabowo

President Prabowo Subianto presented a set of angklung to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a souvenir. The moment drew attention when Modi immediately tried playing the traditional musical instrument from West Java. The gift was presented during a bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/7/2026). The moment was uploaded to the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the angklung was chosen as a diplomatic gift to reflect friendship while introducing Indonesia’s cultural wealth to Modi. “A little story from this morning. During the meeting, President Prabowo gave a diplomatic souvenir in the form of a set of angklung to PM Narendra Modi,” read the official statement from Seskab Teddy on his official account. “The angklung, a traditional musical instrument typical of West Java, is a symbol of friendship as well as Indonesia’s cultural richness,” he added. In the shared video, Prabowo and Modi were seen each holding an angklung and playing them together. Shortly after, Modi approached an angklung player who was accompanying the Indian song ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. PM Modi then joined in playing the angklung, albeit casually. The atmosphere was warm and intimate. According to Teddy, PM Modi appeared quite skilled at playing the instrument. “A funny yet warm moment occurred when PM Modi and the President immediately tried playing it. It turns out PM Modi’s angklung skills are quite good,” said Teddy.
