PM Modi Plays Angklung, a Gift from Prabowo

President Prabowo Subianto presented a souvenir consisting of an angklung set to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The moment drew significant attention when Modi immediately attempted to play the traditional musical instrument from West Java.

The presentation of the souvenir took place amidst bilateral meetings at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/202ng). The moment was shared via the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the angklung was chosen as a diplomatic gift to reflect friendship while introducing Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage to Modi.

“A little story from this morning. Amidst the meeting, President Prabowo presented a diplomatic gift in the form of an angklung set to PM Narendra Modi,” stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy in an official statement on his official account.

“The angklung, a traditional musical instrument from West Java, serves as a symbol of friendship and Indonesia’s cultural wealth,” he added.

In the shared video, Prabowo and Modi appeared to hold individual angklungs and play them together. Shortly after, Modi approached an angklung player who was accompanying the Indian song, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’.

PM Modi then joined in playing the angklung, albeit somewhat randomly. The atmosphere was warm and full of camaraderie. According to Teddy, PM Modi appeared quite skilled at playing the instrument.

“A funny yet warm moment occurred when PM Modi and the President personally tried playing it. It turns out PM Modi has quite the skill for playing the angklung,” said Teddy.
