PM Goh to visit Jakarta
JAKARTA (JP): Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong will make
a two-day working visit to Indonesia beginning on Thursday,
Minister/State Secretary Moerdiono said yesterday.
Moerdiono did not mention any specific topic to be discussed
by Goh during his meeting with President Soeharto, adding that
the two leaders will likely discuss various bilateral, regional
and international matters.
He stressed that because of the informality of the visit,
there would be no specific agenda or schedule during Goh's stay
in the country.
To explain the significance of the visit, Moerdiono simply
stated: "The informal meeting is deemed necessary because of the
dynamic developments in the world."
He added that the leaders of the Association of Southeast
Asian Nations have agreed to periodically schedule informal
meetings among themselves.
Soeharto and Goh last met in November at the leadership
meeting during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in
Bogor, near Jakarta. (emb)
