PM Goh to visit China, Hong Kong

SINGAPORE (Reuter): Singapore Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong
began a working visit to China and Hong Kong yesterday, a
government statement said yesterday.

Goh last visited China in May 1995 but will make his first
visit to Hong Kong in his present capacity, the statement from
his office said.

While in China, Goh will meet with President Jiang Zemin,
Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Chairman Li
Ruihuan and Vice Premier Li Lanqing in Beijing.

He will also visit the cities of Dalian in Liaoning province,
Nanjing and Suzhou in Jiangsu province, and Shanghai before
departing for Hong Kong on May 3.

In Hong Kong, Goh will meet British colonial Governor Chris
Patten, Chief Secretary Anson Chan and Finance Secretary Donald
Tsang, as well as the territory's future chief executive under
Chinese rule, Tung Chee-hwa.
