Moscow (ANTARA) - Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has affirmed that his country is not, and never will be, a member of the “coalition of the willing” supporting the conflict in Ukraine.

“As Prime Minister of Slovakia, I hereby officially declare that Slovakia has never been, is not, and never will be a member of the ‘coalition of the willing’ supporting the war in Ukraine. As head of government, I have never taken part in any meeting of that military alliance,” Fico said via his social media account on Friday.

Previously, on Thursday (23/7), the Slovak newspaper euBrief reported, citing the French Embassy in Slovakia, that the country was alleged to have joined the “Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine”.

Fico said he had personally spoken with the French Ambassador to Slovakia and asked him to ensure that the French Embassy does not spread incorrect information.

According to Fico, the French Ambassador to Slovakia confirmed that a misunderstanding had occurred and that this would be communicated to the public.

Last week, members of the “Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine” gathered in Paris to discuss support for Kyiv.

The “Coalition of the Willing for Ukraine” was initiated by France and the United Kingdom in February 2025 to support Ukraine’s sovereignty by maintaining a ceasefire in the country. Around 35 countries have joined the initiative.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the “Coalition of the Willing” as a coalition of warmongers. According to Peskov, the coalition is a group of countries that do not want peace.
