Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - Malaysia and Japan have expressed their commitment to promoting global peace, said Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim after speaking by telephone with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday (24/3).

“We agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation and playing a constructive role in ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity at both regional and global levels,” Anwar stated in Kuala Lumpur.

He said that in the discussion, the two leaders also highlighted the close relations between Malaysia and Japan that have been established since 1957.

Those relations are now strengthened through the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

The two also discussed progress in cooperation in various priority areas, including security and defence, economy, as well as science, technology, and innovation.

In addition, Anwar conveyed Malaysia’s position regarding the situation in the Middle East.

He emphasised the need for an immediate ceasefire, protection of civilians, and resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy in accordance with international law.
