Plywood sale to China halts
SHANGHAI (Reuter): Indonesia will temporarily halt plywood supplies to China in the first quarter in 1996 due to a shortage of raw materials, Shanghai-based Business News said yesterday.
The paper quoted an Indonesia Plywood Association fax as saying the coming New Year holiday in Indonesia and poor weather were also factors leading to the decision.
It did not say when plywood sales to China would resume.
Indonesia is the biggest source of China's imported plywood. Traders said Indonesia supplied more than one million cubic meters of plywood to China in 1995, accounting for nearly two- thirds of total Chinese plywood imports.
