Plundering bus passengers

Plundering bus passengers

From Media Indonesia

As is my habit, I took the Mayasari Bhakti 03 air-conditioned
bus from Kalideres to Pulogadung. On March 30, arriving at the
Wayang Bharata bus stop in the Senen area at 6.30 p.m., the bus
was forcefully stopped by a group of uniformed high school
students.

The driver was not willing to open the doors. But some of the
students positioned themselves in front of the bus while others
banged on the bus. Then, the students were allowed onto the bus.
They were about 50. They told the driver that they wanted to
avoid the attack of another school's students. The driver
obligingly switched off the lights so the students would not be
visible to their enemies.

What happened next took every passenger by surprise. At
Cempaka Putih, the students went on a pillaging spree. They took
wallets, wristwatches, pagers and walkmen. They then quickly got
off the bus and fled. Most of the victims were women. The
passengers could not do much as they were under threat.

The incident causes a lot of concern. What will such students
become in the future? They give a bad image of high school
students in general.

Student street brawls have been common fare for several years.
It seems that now robbing passengers has become a novel
attraction for them. How can such irresponsible acts be
prevented? Although it is our common responsibility, it is only
fitting that security personnel pioneer preventive actions.
