PLN West Sumatra Commits to Supporting Plantation and Agricultural Downstream Processing
PLN's Main Distribution Unit (UID) for West Sumatra has committed to supporting the downstream processing of plantation and agricultural products in line with government programmes.
As part of this commitment, PLN UID West Sumatra invited several palm oil business operators in the province to a "Strategic Discussion on Electrical Infrastructure Provision to Support Plantation and Agricultural Downstream Processing in Sumatra," held at the PLN UID Riau and Kepri Office Hall in Pekanbaru.
The principal speakers at the discussion were Septiria Christina, Director of Plantation and Forestry Downstream Processing at the Deputy for Strategic Investment Downstream Processing at the Ministry of Investment (BKPM), and Lila Harsyah Bakhtiar, Director of Oleochemical and Feed Industries at the Directorate General of Agro-Industry, Ministry of Industry.
Participants included Nayusrizal, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Sales and Customer Service at PLN Head Office, as well as stakeholders from regional governments, business operators, and agribusiness communities in West Sumatra, along with PLN staff from main offices across Sumatra.
Septiria Christina from the Ministry of Investment stated that Indonesia is currently one of the world's primary investment destinations, ranked 18th globally and 2nd in Southeast Asia. She noted that Indonesia's palm oil industry and plantations represent one of the leading commodities for global investment, with palm oil downstream processing supporting regional economies at a considerably high proportion.
Meanwhile, Lila Harsyah Bakhtiar from the Ministry of Industry said that domestic downstream processing has the potential for rapid advancement through strengthening the upstream sector. She explained that palm oil export commodities need continued development, particularly derivative products, to achieve greater variety and quality.
Ajrun Karim, General Manager of PLN UID West Sumatra, said that PLN fully recognises that plantations and agriculture form the backbone of the regional economy. "This event is part of PLN's efforts to support the acceleration of downstream processing in the plantation and agricultural sectors. Downstream processing is an economic transformation based on developing value-added products from local plantation and agricultural output, and PLN is ready to fully support the success of this transformation," he said.
Beyond the strategic discussion, Ajrun added, PLN's support extends to providing reliable, high-quality electrical infrastructure as well as swift and excellent electricity services to industrial sites and downstream processing plantations.
Suherman, Manager of PT KAMU, a palm oil company in the Lubuk Basung area, expressed appreciation for PLN's tangible efforts in supporting the downstream processing programme. "PLN has been very supportive of us, whether through accelerating new connections to company sites or operational downstream processing plants, providing reliable electricity, or responding quickly to various electricity service needs. We are grateful for PLN's contribution to advancing the economy through the downstream processing programme," he said.
